Pastor's Column

February 24, 2019 Pastor's column

Next weekend seems to be the weekend for retreats.  A young adult two-day retreat will be held at St. Francis next weekend (check our parish website for information); our Alpha participants are doing a day retreat on Saturday; and I will be away on retreat in Wisconsin.  I will be gone from Feb. 28 until March 5.

Lent begins in just a week and a half, with Ash Wednesday falling on March 6.  We begin Lent marked with ashes.  Ash Wednesday Masses will be celebrated at 6:15, 8:15, 12:30, and 6:30 p.m.

I point out some other Lenten offerings in our parish:

--On the weekdays of Lent, we are planning to expose the Blessed Sacrament in the chapel from 6:45 until 8:00 a.m.  Everyone is welcome to come for some early morning time of adoration.  The rosary is recited in the chapel at 6:45 and confessions are heard from 7:30 until 8:00.  A great start to the day.

--On Fridays in Lent, we will offer the Stations of the Cross and Benediction after the 6:30 p.m. Mass.  (roughly 7 p.m.)  We have produced new customized St. Charles booklets this year for the Stations.

--We are working on plans for a Lenten program on Thursday evenings, March 7, 14 and 28.  Details will be announced as they are finalized.

--A men’s Day of Recollection will be held on March 16, beginning with the 8:15 Mass and ending at noon.
