Pastor's Column

June 10, 2018 Pastor's Column

Fr. Nathan’s ordination and First Mass last weekend were beautiful celebrations of faith and love.  Thank you to all who arrived at the cathedral two hours early to get a seat, to all who helped with the First Mass liturgy and the reception that followed, and to all who have taken part in our Vocation prayers through the years.  We are a Church in need of priests and we are seeing answers to our prayer.

Father Nathan has been assigned to Holy Family parish in South Bend.  For those who have asked about sending a card, his address will be:  Fr. Nathan Maskal, Holy Family Parish, 56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN  46619.

I offer thanks for a very generous response to the Pentecost collection for seminary tuition.  We have received over $13,000.  Donations can still be made online at www.diocesefwsb.org.  Hit the “online giving” button and you can make a gift for this cause.  (Monsignor Suelzer remembered this cause in his will.  He saw this as an important gift for the future of the Church.)

A word about our youth ministry programs.  Through the summer, all high schoolers are invited to “Chill and Grill” nights on Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30.  This is a chance to gather and have fun together.  We will also be starting up a new YDisciples group for incoming freshman girls and another group for boys.  The YDisciples groups meet weekly through their high school years to share lesson, discussions, and a lot of fun together.  They become close-knit groups, active and enthused about their Church.  For more information, contact Stacey Huneck at youthministry@scbfw.org.
