Pastor's Column

March 17, 2019 Pastor's column

Exciting news:  We have been working for the last couple of years to deepen the ties between St. Charles and St. Patrick parishes.  Last year a member of our Parish Council attended a Good Friday event at St. Patrick and was very moved by a dramatic presentation of the Passion.  He suggested that we invite the Latino actors to bring the presentation to St. Charles.  The invitation was accepted.  The group from St. Patrick has agreed to present the Passion at St. Charles at 5:00 p.m. on Good Friday.   [The Good Friday Liturgy is 12:30 and we have conventional Stations at 3:30 and 7:30 that day.]  This should be a wonderful chance to deepen our faith while tasting a bit of Latin American Catholic culture during Holy Week.

We are taking a break this week from our Thursday evening Lenten series, giving everyone a chance to come to the school Spring Musical on Thursday evening.  The Lenten series will conclude next Thursday, March 28, at 7 p.m.  I will offer some insights into the missionary work of the Church in East Africa.

Next Sunday, a speaker from Catholic Charities will offer a practical talk on parenting, “Helping Your Child have a healthy relationship with Modern Media.”  Join us in the Hession Center at 6:15 on March 24.

We are grateful for all who took part in our Borromeo Bash in February.  A first-time fundraising effort raised $48,000 for computer upgrades in our school.  A lot of work and sacrifices went in to the event.  We are grateful.

We will need three new members for the Parish Council this spring.  The council meets monthly on Wednesday evenings to discuss the spiritual life of the parish, and members serve 3-year terms.   Please contact me at fathertom@scbfw.org if you are interested.
