Pastor's Column

November 11, 2018 Pastor's column

I was very surprised by the response to our parish outing to the Shrine of the Holy Relics at Maria Stein.  We had 40 people on the trip and had a wonderful day together.  We will plan other outings in the future.

We have 80 people finishing Alpha this week.  I am hearing great reviews.  Alpha provides a chance to build a stronger relationship with Jesus Christ, to talk within a small group about the faith, and to focus on what is really important in life.  We will start up a new series on January 16.  Each Wednesday evening for 10 weeks will include a free dinner, a great video, and discussion time with a small group.  We will also offer childcare and dinner for the kids in this winter session.  You can learn more and register on the parish website,

As we start up a new cycle of Alpha in January, we are also going to launch small in-home Catholic study groups.  These groups will read parts of the Bible and work through them with a study guide.  This could be a great opportunity for those who have finished Alpha and also for those who are not free on Wednesday evenings.  More information will be coming.  Look around and see if there are some folks you would like to assemble for a group.

I am leaving late this Sunday night for a trip to South America.  I’m meeting two old seminary friends for a backpacking trip in Paraguay, exploring the Jesuit missions of the 17th and 18th centuries.   I will return to Fort Wayne late on Thanksgiving Day.
