Pastor's Column

April 28 pastor's column

Next weekend will be our First Communion weekend at St. Charles.  We will have a 1:00 Mass on Sunday, May 5.  Please remember in prayer the children who are anticipating receiving Christ in this beautiful sacrament.

Our school May crowning will take place the following day, May 6 at 1:00.  Everyone is welcome.

We received a note of thanks from the Christ Child Society for our generous response to their Baby Bottle campaign.  Our parish contributed roughly $6,000.  They wrote: “May God bless each one of you and THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!”

Let me share some other interesting numbers from March.   Our parish Fish Fry, organized by the Knights of Columbus, was made possible by 77 volunteers.  70 high schoolers attended our youth ministry weekend retreat in March.  Our parish St. Vincent de Paul Society worked with 51 families who called asking for help during March.  With our regular confession schedule, school confessions, penance services and lots of extra times during Holy Week, we had 93 man hours for priests hearing confessions in our parish during March.    2100 people received Holy Communion at our Easter Masses.  This is one active parish, Thanks be to God.

A highly unusual event will be taking place at St. Charles next weekend: we have a double wedding.  Two Kohrman sisters, Katie and Gloria, are marrying two Perkins brothers, Seth and Josh.  I have been pouring through our sacramental records at St. Charles and I think this will be the first double wedding in the history of our parish.  I know that I have never seen one.   Please keep them, and all of our young couples, in prayer.
