Pastor's Column

August 10 pastor's column

This Friday, August 15, we will celebrate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a Holy Day of Obligation.  Our Masses will be Thursday evening at 6:30, and Friday at 6:15, 8:15, 12:30 and 6:30 p.m.  Please note that the 8:15 Mass will be an all-school Mass and seating will be limited.

School is back in session.  We are happy to have our parish hopping with activity again.  Our student count is fluctuating a bit day-by-day with families making last-minute school decisions, but we have roughly 830 students this year.  With our new exterior look, we have professional landscapers making a plan to add shrubbery and trees and make the building more beautiful.

Thank you to all who have offered their congratulations on the Monsignor title.  With all of the well-wishers, the last couple of weeks have been pretty overwhelming and pretty embarrassing.  As I have mentioned before, I plan to continue to call myself “Fr. Tom.” I’ll answer to whatever I’m called, but “Father” is fine with me.

One note of congratulations is worth sharing.  Fr. Jacob Meyer wrote from his assignment in the Navy.  “I will be offering my Mass for you on the feast of St. John Vianney and it will be just as you’d like but least expect from me, on a giant vehicle in the middle of the desert with a handful of Marines as things explode around us.”  I hope he is kidding.  And I’m of the opinion that that is where the monsignor title should go.

We have received a very generous bequest from the estate of Charlie and Sylvia Fleck.  Please remember them in your prayer.
