Pastor's Column

December 21 pastor's column

We are nearly ready for our great celebration of Christmas.  Masses will be at 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve; Midnight; and at 9:00 and 11:00 on Christmas morning.  Please invite friends and relatives to join us.  While we have many beautiful Christmas traditions… sharing a meal with family, opening presents, spending family time together…. our most important Christmas tradition is coming to Mass.  Here we welcome Christ.

A fun event the day after Christmas:  The Cupertino Classic is an annual basketball game with priests of our diocese competing with our seminarians.  The tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 26 in the gym at Bishop Luers High School.  While none of our St. Charles priests has any basketball skill, I think that we will see Michael Florin, our seminarian last summer, and Deacon Sam Martinez in his final year as a seminarian.  It should be fun.  The bishop is also offering a Mass and holy hour for vocations before the game.  The Holy Hour begins at 3:00 and the Mass at 4:00 at the chapel at St. Francis University. All are welcome.

I offer thanks to Tim Robison, Karen Hope, and all of the musicians who are putting in long hours of preparation for our Christmas music.  Thank also to Kelly Tippmann and the crew which decorates the church.  There is a lot of work involved in preparing beautiful liturgy.

I forgot to mention the Retired Religious collection in the pastor’s column last week.  If you weren’t prepared for that collection, you can still donate.  Write a check and be sure to put “retired religious” in the memo line.  Our parish owes a great debt to the sisters who served us for so many years.
