Pastor's Column

January 18 pastor's column

Bishop Rhoades invites us to a prayer service this Sunday evening, Jan. 18, at 5 p.m. at St. Jude.  It will be an ecumenical prayer service, with people from many different Protestant denominations joining Catholics in prayer.  As we are beginning a week of prayer for Christian unity, this is a good chance to join with our bishop and with friends and neighbors who are not fully united in our faith practices, praying for unity.

Baby bottles are being distributed at Masses this weekend to help with the work of the Christ Child Society.  Fill a bottle with coins (or a check) and bring it back to help sponsor their good works with the poor.

We have a special event taking place next weekend.  Our church building was dedicated by Bishop Pursley on January 25, 1976.  Sunday will be the exact 50th anniversary.  We will have special Masses next weekend to celebrate our place of worship.  Before Mass begins we will show a five-minute video which we have made to give the history of this church.  The Masses will feature special readings and prayers to commemorate that anniversary.

We will also begin Catholic Schools Week next weekend.  There will be many events taking place in the parish to celebrate our Catholic school.

We received a letter of thanks this week from the Food Pantry at St. Patrick’s.  They offer thanks for the mounds of toiletries delivered through our Advent Giving Tree, the weekly food donations, and all of our monetary help.  “We are very blessed to be the recipients of the generosity of your parish.  All the gifts we have received are most appreciated.”
