I offer a reminder of our parish Lenten series on Sunday evening, March 22 and 29. Dr. Tom McGovern will be speaking in the church at 6:30 p.m. about the Passion and the crucifixion of Christ. He has some very interesting insights into the fate of Christ and also reflections on our suffering, joined to that of Christ. Join us and bring a friend.
Our parish Penance Service will be held this Wednesday, March 25, at 7 p.m. We have ten priests coming and the lines shouldn’t be long at all. If you haven’t yet been to confession during Lent, this is a great opportunity.
Next Sunday is Palm Sunday. We will distribute palms and read the entire Passion at each Mass. If the weather cooperates, we will have a palm procession before the 11:00 Mass. Palms will be blessed outside, next to the Hession Center windows, and we will process into the church to begin Mass. Holy Week is nearly here.
We are working with architects and making exciting progress on our new building. A big decision looms: what should we call the building? It will be used for funeral luncheons, sacramental prep, youth gatherings, and a variety of parish meetings and social gatherings. The parish staff and Parish Council have been throwing ideas around and we are not yet settled. Let me know if you have an idea.
The Parish Council is a group which meets monthly to talk about the ministries, the social life, and the outreach of our parish. We have a great group which provides valuable feedback and has come up with new initiatives. We will discern four new members for the council at our May meeting. We meet on Wednesday evenings and members have a 3-year term. If you might be interested, let me know at fathertom@scbfw.org.
