We welcome guests and family members today as all of us pray for our mothers. We remember the great gift given to each of us by mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, or an aunt, a teacher, a coach, or a caring woman who has nurtured us. We also turn during the month of May to the Blessed Mother. From her place in heaven, Mary prays for us and helps guide us on our way.
We are glad to have Fr. Jery back from his vacation time in India. He has spent important time with his family and with the priests and brothers of his monastery. We have missed him.
Monday evening is the closing Mass for the year for our Religious Education program. We are very grateful for the volunteers who come on Monday evenings and instruct our public school and home school students. We are also grateful to Keith Heimann and Cindy Stultz for all they do to organize the program.
Every year, the diocese assigns someone to the parish who will take a collection for an overseas mission. Next weekend, Fr. Emmanuel Abuh will speak at all Masses about the Diocese of Ida, in Nigeria, East Africa. It is a place of vibrant faith and also a place of tremendous challenges. We will take a second collection to help. You may write a check to St. Charles and note “Nigeria” in the memo line. While Fr. Emmanuel comes from Nigeria, he won’t have to travel far to join us for the weekend. He has been serving for several years in our diocese and is now the pastor at our neighboring parish, St. Jude.
Next week our “College Crew” begins, Monday May 18 at 7:15. I believe that each Monday evening will focus on one of the deadly sins. College-aged young adults are invited.
