This weekend we celebrate Pentecost. With Easter and Christmas, this is one of the three most important days in our Church year. When Jesus told his friends “I will not leave you orphans,” he had a plan. Jesus is still with us, especially in the sacraments. But he also knew that he would send the Holy Spirit, the very presence of God, to live within our hearts and within our Church. We are not a people with a distant God who watches us from afar. We are a people who know God intimately. His presence is within.
A group of young adults from our parish will leave on Monday for Rome. Comprised mostly of youth ministers and teachers from our parish, this group will have a chance to be inspired by our Roman roots and come back with much to share. Fr. Bobby will be a part of the group, returning on June 2.
We received a warm letter of thanks from the Christ Child Society for our parish contributions to their baby bottle campaign in February. Our parish contributed $8,800. That’s a lot of nickels and dimes! It goes to a good cause. Thank you.
I also have some figures on our Lenten almsgiving projects. We collected almost $3,000 for Catholic Relief Service and their Rice Bowl initiative. We collected over $12,000 for the works of the Passionist Fathers in Haiti. This is one generous parish! Thank you.
Next weekend we will have a young adult retreat, Summit Awakening, taking place in our buildings. Through the weekend retreatants will be sleeping in our school classrooms, celebrating Mass and Adoration in the church, and having Adoration in the youth center. The last I heard there will be around 110 young adults taking part in the retreat. The Holy Spirit is at work!
We received a generous gift this week from the estate of Dee Kindred. Please remember her in your prayer.
