This is an important weekend in our parish. Noah Isch and Sam Martinez, two young men from our parish, are ordained deacons on Saturday morning. Deacon Sam will preach at the 9:00 Mass this weekend and Deacon Noah at the 11:00 Mass. There will be a reception in the Hession Center after both of these Masses. You may want to come to both of these Masses. Please join us also for both receptions. Our parish Vocation Committee has organized a lot of food!
We will have a social time with coffee and donuts after the 8:15 Mass on Wednesday morning, 5/28, in the Community Room. Get to know the other people in your pew!
Our Parish Council discerned four new members: Pam Bennett, Joe Eifrid, Gloria Perkins and Jerry Witte. The council meets monthly to talk about the spiritual life, the social life, and the outreach of our parish. Feel free to contact any council member with ideas or issues. For a complete list of council members and to read the minutes of our meetings, go to the parish website menu, click on “Parish Information,” and you will find a Parish Council page.
As we announced last weekend, Fr. James will be leaving us on June 17. Fr. James is a Benedictine monk and he has been at St. Charles, away from his monastery, for 18 years. His abbot is calling him back home to live as a part of the community in the monastery. He will surely be missed. Fr. James has been a completely dependable shepherd here, always willing to jump in and help when a priest is needed. We will miss his passionate homilies and his quiet demeanor.
The monastery in India is sending another priest who will take the place of Fr. James at St. Charles. Our new priest is 41 years old and is currently awaiting the final approval of his visa. His name is Fr. Jery Madathiparambil. I think we will call him by his first name.
We are in need of Communion ministers to make weekly rounds at Parkview Hospital on Randallia. It takes roughly an hour for a minister to take Communion to the Catholic patients. If you would be interested in helping one day a week, please contact me at fathertom@scbfw.org. If you are not a trained minister, we can provide that training provided that you are a practicing Catholic in good standing.
