Pastor's Column

May 31 pastor's column

Next weekend is the ordination weekend of our two parishioners, Deacons Sam Martinez and Noah Isch.  The ordination will be at 11:00 on Saturday at the Fort Wayne Cathedral.  They will each celebrate their First Mass next Sunday, June 7, at St. Charles.  Father Sam will offer the Mass at 9:00 and Fr. Noah at 11:00.  We will have a reception in the Hession Center after each of those Masses.  Please join us and congratulate our new priests.

Next weekend is Corpus Christi Sunday, a time when we remember the profound gift given to us by Jesus in the Mass, his very Body and Blood.  Weather permitting, we will have a short Corpus Christi procession around our property after the 11:00 Mass.  Our two new priests will carry the monstrance and everyone is invited to take part.

We have a great summer series lined up for students in 7th-12th grade, focused on the life and influence of St. Francis of Assisi. On four Wednesdays, beginning June 10, Middle school students will meet from 5-6:30pm, and high school students from 7-8:30pm. For more information and to sign up, visit stcharlesfortwayne.org/welcome-packet.

Fr. Bobby started his outdoor Bibles and Burgers sessions a couple of years ago and they have been very popular.  We will continue.   On the Thursdays of June and July you will have a chance to share a meal, learn a bit about the scriptures and enjoy the company of other parishioners.  I believe that Fr. Bobby will be leading while he is still with us, and then our new priest, Fr. Drew, and our seminarian, Mason, will take over.

The new hospice wing at St. Anne’s will be dedicated this week.  Our parish made a nice contribution to the construction and they are going to include our name on a plaque of donors.  This will be a place of comfort and prayer for families when a loved one is coming close to the end of life.
