I am missing in action this weekend. The long-anticipated Diocesan Synod is taking place in South Bend this weekend. Paige Huston, Edwin Capuyan, and I are delegates from St. Charles. Many of you took part in a parish synod gathering a year ago in preparation for this diocesan event. Please pray for the synod. The bishop hopes that the Holy Spirit will move through this gathering, leading us to better plans for the mission of the Church in our diocese.
Join us for our All Soul’s Day Memorial Mass at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, November 2. We will celebrate Mass by candlelight in a dark church, reading the names of parishioners who have died in the past year and lighting a candle for each. If you have loved ones who have died since last November and they didn’t have a St. Charles funeral, call us by noon on Monday and we will add those names to our list.
Wednesday is the feast day of St. Charles Borromeo, our parish patron. In addition to our usual morning Masses we will have an all-school Mass at 12:30 on Wednesday. Bishop Rhoades will join us for Confirmation on Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m., taking the place of our usual evening Mass. St. Charles is the patron saint of seminaries and seminarians… an extra reason for our parish to offer our daily Vocation Prayer. Please remember in prayer the 94 young people who will be Confirmed on Wednesday.
A plenary indulgence is offered during the first week of November for those who visit a cemetery and offer prayer. The conditions for the indulgence: visit a cemetery, receive Holy Communion that day without attachment to sin, offer prayers for the pope, and make a sacramental confession within 20 days before or after. Several Masses will be offered at Catholic Cemetery during the week of November 1: noon on Monday and Tuesday, 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and 1 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, a Mass will be offered in Vietnamese at 8 a.m. and Spanish at 10 a.m.
Our annual craft show will be held in the school next Saturday, Nov. 7, from 8:30-2:00. Proceeds help with our school fine arts programs. Everyone is welcome.
