Pastor's Column

October 11 pastor's column

Each October the diocese presents Continuing Education days for priests.  Fr. Jery, Fr. Drew and I will be away from Tuesday afternoon until Thursday afternoon.  There will be neither Mass nor confessions in the parish during that span.  We will have morning Masses on Tuesday and the evening Mass and confessions on Thursday.   The church will be open for prayer and rosaries will be prayed at their usual times.  Deacon Rob will offer a Communion service at 8:15 on Wednesday morning.

The OCIA (formerly known as RCIA) group will have a rite at the 9:00 Mass this Sunday morning.  The rite will officially welcome our new catechumens and candidates into a recognized relationship with the Catholic Church.  Full initiation will take place at the Easter Vigil, when they will receive sacraments.  We are excited to have the biggest class ever at St. Charles.  The Holy Spirit has been working, and parishioners have been evangelizing—sharing the Good News.

Summit Awakening is a weekend retreat for young adults, age 18-25.  This retreat will take place here at St. Charles next weekend.  From Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon we will have a large group of young adults here, sleeping in school classrooms, praying in the Hession Center, and having various liturgies and prayer services in the church.  It is exciting to see the commitment of so many young adults.

On Monday evening, October 19, our 6:30 Mass will be dedicated to those who have lost a child.  Whether it was an adult child, a youth, a baby, or a child in the womb… any parent who has lost a child is invited to join us for that Mass and to join in prayer.  Of course other family members are welcome too.  The diocese is making a wide invitation to this Mass and will pass out a silk rose in remembrance of each child who has died.
