Pastor's Column

September 13 pastor's column

I thank all of the workers and sponsors who have helped to make Cardinal Fest an important event this weekend.  We have some amazing organizers who make a complex project look simple.

You will remember that Fr. Emmanuel, the pastor of St. Jude, gave a missionary appeal at St. Charles in April.  We raised over $17,000 for his diocese in Nigeria.  We received a gracious note of thanks from Bishop Anthony Adaji, the Bishop of Idah.  “I thank you for the warm welcome and generous hospitality extended to my priest, Fr. Emmanuel Abuh during his recent mission appeal on behalf in your parish.  We are deeply grateful to you and your parishioners for supporting the mission and ministry of the Idah Diocese….  May the Blessed Virgin Mary intercede for you and bring abundant blessings to your parish.”

Next weekend will be our pledge weekend for the Annual Bishop’s Appeal.  The video for the appeal this year is very, very short… less than two minutes.  We will show it before each Mass next weekend.  Pledge cards will be available in the pews.  Please be generous with the appeal.  Many important ministries are possible through these funds.

The diocese has stopped printing the weekly newspaper, Today’s Catholic.  Two new opportunities are taking its place to help keep us informed.  A free weekly newsletter is now offered through e-mail.  If you are not yet receiving this newsletter, go to the diocesan website, diocesefwsb.org.  You will see “Stay Connected” on the home page.  Hit the subscribe button and give your e-mail address.    The diocese is also printing a very slick quarterly magazine called “Vibrant Catholic” with news and interviews.  It is sent through the mail to everyone who donates to the Annual Bishop’s Appeal.
