Please join us on Thursday evening, Oct. 2, for a 7 p.m. tour and visit at Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren. The church is at 2810 Beacon Street, near St. Jude. Anyone who would like to carpool can gather at St. Charles at 6:30. It will be a chance to learn about the history and the worship of neighbors from the Anabaptist tradition. The pastors there will give a presentation, answer questions, and then their choir will lead us in some hymns.
I am excited about the new landscaping which you can see around our school and church. We have added nineteen trees and sixteen shrubs, most of which will bloom in the spring or fall. With the new brickwork and windows on our school, our property has become more beautiful. Many thanks to the Plant Center and to the 23 members of our Knights of Columbus who showed up with shovels and wheelbarrows to help with the planting.
Saturday, Sept, 4 is the feast day of St. Francis of Assisi. We will offer a blessing of animals at 1:00 on Saturday. You are welcome to bring any pets to the canopy area outside the Gathering Space doors.
Next Sunday, October 5, from 1:00-3:00, our Walking with Moms in Need group will collect diapers, wipes, baby food, and other donations which a struggling young mother could use. Volunteers will be in front of the church, under the canopy, to collect donations. We are grateful to those who can help.
Bishop Rhoades will offer a Jubilee Mass at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 6:30 p.m. A Pontifical Blessing will be offered and a plenary indulgence is attached with the usual conditions. Everyone is welcome.
My Scotland vacation, travelling with four priest friends, was a great getaway. A highlight was two days in a 13th century monastery, eating and praying with the Benedictine monks. We also caught a parade in Edinburgh. There were lots of bagpipes, lots of horses, and an appearance by Princess Anne, riding on horseback with a Scottish regiment. The Princess looked right at me, but didn’t return my wave. At age 75 she probably should hang on to the horse with both hands.
